1/21 – Martin Luther King Jr Day and Inauguration Day. The Post will be open to the community as a rest-stop and for viewing of the 57th Inaugural Ceremonies on the big screen. The Boy Scouts will be onsite with food for sale. The schedule is as follows:
7:00 AM – Coffee, donuts, soda, water available. Lounge bathrooms open.
10:00 AM – Lounge open and shortly afterwards Boy Scouts will make available hot dogs & chili.
10:30 AM – Big Screen TV in Event Hall will show pre-ceremony coverage.
12:00 PM – Inaugural Ceremony begins.

Other Notices

Thank you to all the volunteers who brought food and assisted during the Annual Christmas Day Potluck. Also, special thanks to the volunteer organizers for the Annual New Year’s Eve Party and the volunteer DJ, Boots.
Plan ahead for the Annual SuperBowl/ChiliBowl on February 3rd. Sign-up sheet for the contestants will be available soon.
Construction of the new facilities in the Event Hall is drawing to a close. Stay tuned for special news related to the “re-opening.”

12/25 – Annual Christmas Day Potluck – This annual potluck is casual: sandwiches, sides, finger foods, salads, snacks and desserts. Sign-up sheet is posted in the Post 8 lounge. The doors open at 11AM on Christmas Day, and we’ll begin serving food around 3:30PM. Open to members and their guests.
12/31 – New Years Eve Party – 9PM until 1AM – Come down to the Legion for a New Year’s Eve celebration. Listen to music (DJ) or dance, snack on hors d’oeuvres and toast in the New Year at Midnight. The party is free for members and their guests.

Raffle drawing will be held the night before the game, so get your raffle tickets within the next couple of days! Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 to benefit Post 8.

SPREAD THE WORD! The DC Lady Arm Wrestlers (D/CLAW) will return to Post 8 on Dec. 3rd for another fundraising bout. This time the ladies have chosen Post 8 to benefit from the bout. Proceeds will benefit our building fund, specifically to update and modernize our facilities. Please tell your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and people you meet about this important fundraiser. It’s $5 to enter, be sure to bring extra cash for drinks and betting. Betting on the matches is the main way we can raise money for our Building Fund!

Dec 25: Christmas Day Potluck Dinner (Post 8 will provide sandwich platters; a sign up sheet will be posted in the Post 8 Lounge shortly)
Dec 31: New Year’s Eve Party hosted by the Auxiliary for Post members and their guests; Free tickets, one per individual attending, are available at the Post 8 Lounge bar

The Post 8 event committee will hold a “Basket of Cheer” raffle during the month of December. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will go home with bottles of fine spirits and good cheer. Look for tickets and more information soon! Raffle tickets will be available at the Post 8 Lounge, 1 for $2, 3 for $5.

Bring your 2011 calendars (any type is welcome, including promotional calendars you may receive) for residents of the U.S. Armed Forces Retirement Home (formerly known as the Old Soldiers’ Home). Please drop off calendars at the Post 8 Lounge by December 19th to ensure delivery by the new year.

A special thanks to members who donated food and time for our Thanksgiving Day Potluck. Members and their guests feasted on all the traditional Thanksgiving Day dishes. Many thanks to the event committee and Sandy M. for organizing the dinner and to those who brought food and helped out Chuck, Cyndi, Don, Ed, Jim, Kathryn, KB, Leon, Melinda, Margaret, Preston, Sandy, Susan, Rich, and Wookie. If we forgot to mention a volunteer, please let us know at dcpost8@verizon.net.

Thank you to everyone who donated during the Thanksgiving “canned food” drive. We were able to give $580 in comissary gift certificates to families at Bolling Air Force Base for their Thanksgiving dinners.

Tickets are available for the Auxiliary New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31, 2010 at 9 pm. Admittance is FREE, tickets are available to help the Auxiliary plan for the event attendance. The celebration is open to all members, their friends and family. There will be food, dancing and complimentary champagne at Midnight!
